Finding My Way Series

Finding My Way reflects a quiet but decisive shift within Zappitell’s established visual language, unfolding alongside her return to Santa Fe. Although the series began prior to the move, it emerged during a period of internal reorientation that was deepened by a renewed relationship to place. The expansiveness of the desert and the clarity of light became subtle catalysts for change.

This body of work marks a return to the gestural immediacy exhibited in her earlier paintings. While the looping forms remain central to her practice, the series moves away from more text-driven surfaces and leans fully into the physicality of paint. Gesture reclaims its primacy. The hand leads.

The loops function as both vessel and passage. In some works they gather and contain, holding the weight and pulse of emotion within enclosed forms. In others they open and stretch, sweeping across the surface with permeability and breath. In still others, color intensifies into luminous pinks and charged greens, carrying moments of vitality that feel immediate and unguarded.

Across the series, the emotional core resides within these repeated curves. Feeling lives inside the loops. Palette and movement shift in response to inner transformation and outer landscape, moving between contemplation and exuberance, protection and release. Through repetition and evolving color, Zappitell traces an unfolding shaped by trust, belonging, and becoming.

Viewers are invited to enter the movement of the work and find their own sense of orientation within its field of gesture and light.
